Stella Norkus, age 86 of Fremont, passed away Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont following a lingering illness. Stella was born on October 29, 1927 in Hartshorne, Oklahoma to William and Rosa (Bellevich) Norkus and moved to the Fremont area in 1940. Stella graduated from Fremont High School in 1946 and had worked at Gerber Products Company and also worked on the family farm for many years until her retirement. Stella enjoyed being a longtime member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Fremont and enjoyed reading, gardening and taking care of her flowers in her yard until her health prevented her from doing so and listening to Detroit Tigers baseball. Stella also enjoyed talking and visiting with her neighbors and keeping up with her nieces and nephews activities. Stella will be missed by her brother, Brownie Norkus of Fremont; sister-in-law, Mary Norkus of Muskegon; nieces, nephews, Nancy Norkus, Carol Norkus, Bill Norkus, John and Yvonne Hinton, Mike and Cathy Norkus, Tony and Deb Norkus, Larry and Pegi Norkus; several great nieces and nephews; her senior companion, Grace Radala; special neighbors, Ray and Marilyn Cargill, Bertha White and Chieu Totten. Stella was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Audrey Norkus; brother, Victor Norkus; sister-in-law, Helen Norkus; her nephews, Victor "Butch" Norkus Jr.; niece, Vicki Redfern Norkus. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 11am at the All Saints Catholic Church in Fremont with Rev. Father Sahaya Stanly presiding with visitation from 9:45am until the time of the Mass Services with Rosary Services being prayed at 9:45am at the church. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the All Saints Catholic Church Building Fund in memory of Stella.
