Susan Kaye Lathers, age 49 of Croton, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008 at her home following a long illness. Susan was born on July 21, 1958 in Indianapolis to Dr. Robert J. and Carol (Day) Walden and later moved to the Newaygo area in 1991 from Indianapolis. Susan met Doug Lathers in 1992 and they were later married in Croton. In 1996, her son Nathaniel was born and he brought great joy to her life being a Mom. Susan had been a cashier at Genes Grocery in Croton for several years and had also been a homemaker. Susan enjoyed flower gardening and crafts and seemed to always be working with her hands. She enjoyed music, shopping and helping others out in times of need with a loving and caring heart. She is survived by her husband, Doug of Newaygo; her son, Nathaniel Lathers of Newaygo; her father, Dr. Robert (Jackie) Walden of Noblesville, Indiana; her mother, Carol Frielink of Newaygo; Susans only brother, Mark R. (Kathy) Walden of Carmel, Indiana; her nephews, Andrew and Christopher Walden; her stepchildren, Tara (Nick) Thompson of Newaygo; Shannon (Rodd Sutton) Lathers of Newaygo; her step grandchildren, Paige & Luke Thompson; Conner & Kaidance Sutton; her aunts, Jane Steele & Marcia Laver. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel with Rev. Harry Bultema of the Croton Community Church presiding with interment in the Croton Township Cemetery. Friends may consider Hospice of Michigan for memorial contributions in memory of Susan.
