Terry E. Wantz, age 72 of Fremont, passed away Monday, November 22, 2010, surrounded by his family at his home. Terry was born on May 4, 1938, in Fremont to Lozier Mike Wantz and Connie Dickinson and graduated from Fremont High School in 1956. Terry married Wanda Phillips on April 4, 1959, in Lakewood and has been a lifelong resident of the Fremont area. Terry started his career with Michigan Bell Telephone which later became AT&T where he worked until his retirement in 1986 and started Wantzs Phone Service which he operated until 1998. Terry was a member of the Newaygo County Historical Society and loved the history of the Fremont and the Newaygo County area. Terry had written several books about the history of Fremont, The Civil War and the Newaygo County area. He had been a volunteer firefighter in Fremont, was a member of the Fremont Moose Lodge #1555 for 49 years and had volunteered at Bay Cliff Health Camp for over 30 years. Terry was an avid collector and loved going to yard sales. SURVIVORS : his wife of 51 years, Wanda of Fremont; his children, Terri (Joe) Teall of Grand Haven; Tena Graham of Fremont; Trude (Ken) Bushaw of Fremont; Todd (Rose) Wantz of Spring Lake; 17 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his sisters, Carol Bonter of Ravenna; Donne Moore of Spring Lake; Jeanne (Allen) Sager of South Dakota. Preceded in death by his brother, Lt. John Darling Jr. VISITATION : Sunday, November 28, 2010, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm MEMORIAL SERVICES : Monday, November 29, 2010, at 11 am at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel.
