Obituary

Theodore (Ted) Alan Haveman, age 65, of Muskegon and formerly of Fremont, passed peacefully from this world to the next at 11:35 pm on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI after a brief battle with cancer. Ted was born in Fremont, MI on February 4, 1952 to Dr. Marvin J. and Pauline (Sybesma) Haveman, the fourth of five children. He graduated from Grant High School in 1970 and then Ferris State University in 1975 with a degree in Pharmacy. He married his high school sweetheart, Sandra (Sandy) G. Hall, on August 26, 1972 in Bailey, MI. Ted and Sandy spent 45 adventurous years of married life together, raising three children: Becky, Rachel and Nate. The family grew to include Ben, Becky, Nick & Luke Wever of Marysville, Ohio, Adam, Rachel, Samantha, Hope, & Erin Eriks of Hudsonville, MI, and Heather, Nate, Tana & Joel Haveman of Holland, MI. Ted poured himself into his family. Many of his most cherished moments involved the times when his family was gathered together enjoying life. Ted worked as a pharmacist for 40 years in various locations, concluding his pharmacy career at Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont. Ted was a long-time and active member of Church of the Living Christ in Fremont, serving as a deacon, elder and youth leader during his years there. Ted's faith was solid and he emanated peace even to the end of his journey on earth. He shared his joy and gift of singing at church, at weddings and funerals, and in various singing groups. Ted enjoyed spending time with friends and playing golf, pickleball, and biking. Clever, with a witty sense of humor, he thrived with a competitive nature exuberantly displayed in most any game or sport. Ted was a loyal friend and a champion of those who knew him. His wife, children and grandchildren undoubtedly always felt the abundance of his love for them. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Ted is survived by his brother Larry (Linda) Haveman, his sister-in-law Julie Haveman, and his sisters Kathy (Dale) Painter and Marge (Jerry) Tibbe, his mother-in-law Kay Hall, brother-in-law Lee (Sue) Hall, sisters-in-law Paula (Simon) Hernandez and Marilyn Hall, and many other beloved family members and friends. Ted was preceded in death by his father, mother, father-in-law Jimmie Hall, and brother Steve Haveman.
