Valerie Ann Vale Bernick, age 96 of White Cloud, passed away Monday, September 3, 2012 at her home. Valerie was born on January 6, 1916 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph Alexander and Falicia (Zelgiewicz) Mitrius and later married Albert Bernick on July 10, 1943. Albert preceded her in death in 1986. Valerie has been a resident of the White Cloud area for the past 30 years when she moved from Chicago and was the oldest member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud. Valerie enjoyed decorating her homes, designing, sewing and making dresses, cooking and spending her winters in Florida. Valerie was a devoted mother and grandmother. Valerie is survived by her daughter, Gayle Conlan of Schererville, Indiana; Randy (Rosemary) Bernick of Hartsville, South Carolina; step daughter, Darlene Flanagan of Glenwood, Illinois; her grandchildren, Kristen, Amy, Melissa, Morgan, Matt, Jason, Jonathon, Heather, Christopher, and Zachary; 4 great grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Bernick of White Cloud; her brothers, Martin (Dorothy) Mitrius of Schaumburg, Illinois; Daniel (Ann) Mitrius of Downers Grove, Illinois; her sister, Natalie Kolander of Schaumburg, Illinois; several nieces and nephews. Valerie was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Crick; her son, Bruce Bernick; her sister, Felicia Phyllis DAmico; her brothers, Robert Mitrius; Paul Mitrius; Henry Mitrius. Memorial services will be held in the summer of 2013 at the family home following cremation with interment in the White Cloud Cemetery in White Cloud, Michigan.
