Vera Jane Ford, age 85 of Hesperia, passed away Saturday at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. She was born on September 20, 1917 in Beaver Township to Harvey R. and Jessie (Bunting) Thompson and married Maurice Ford on June 7, 1941 in Alexandria, Louisiana. Maurice preceded her in death on June 12, 1990. She was a resident of Hesperia and had taught school in Albridge, Michigan schools and retired from the Mona Shores School System where she taught at Churchill Elementary for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the Hesperia United Methodist Church, a member of the Retired Teachers Organization and enjoyed reading, gardening, hiking and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Opal (John) Powers of Fremont; her grandchildren, Rachel (Dan) Hermance of Twin Lake; Cameron Hollowell of Salem, New Jersey; her sisters, Laura (Harold) Forquer of Shepherd, Michigan; Lois (Darwin) Buck of Walhalla, Michigan; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Edith Wycoft; Lula Thompson and brother, Norma Thompson; her son-in-law, Larry Hollowell and her husband Maurice Ford on June 12, 1990. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 10, 2003 from the Hesperia United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Bremer of the Holton United Methodist Church presiding with interment in the East Hesperia Cemetery . Friends may consider contributions to the Hesperia United Methodist Church in her memory.
