Verda B. Hews, age 94 of White Cloud, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at the Newaygo County Compassion Home in White Cloud following a short illness. Verda was born on September 25, 1924 in Thompsonville, Michigan and graduated from Fennville High School. Following graduation, Verda joined the United States Navy and served during World War II. Verda married Samuel Hews on December 7, 1957 in Hesperia and Sam preceded her in death on April 13, 2001. Verda had been the head bookkeeper at the Comstock Park Public Schools for 25 years until her retirement in 1982 and has been an off and on resident of the White Cloud area since 1938. Verda was a member of the White Cloud United Methodist Church where she had been active in many of the circles and clubs and was a member of the White Cloud Homemakers group. Verda is survived by her son, Steven (Cheryl) Hews of Walker; step daughter, Judith (Orland) Dame of Comstock Park; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; 3 special nieces, Linda Reynolds, Marcia Woods and Judy Herin. Verda was preceded in death by her son, Russell Hews on March 26, 1992; her brothers, Howard Menold and Russell Menold. MEMORIAL SERVICES : Friday, March 22, 2019 at 12pm with United States Navy Honors to be given at 12pm. INTERMENT : Spring 2019 at the Lincoln Township Cemetery.
