Verna Jean (Cottrell) Coon, age 94, of Fremont, Michigan passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's/Dementia at Hillcrest Nursing Home in North Muskegon on December 27, 2024.

She was born in Muskegon, Michigan on June 21, 1930 to Amos and Marguerite  (Pyatt) Cottrell, who preceded her in death.

She retired from Meijer Thrifty Acres in 1990 after 27 years.

She loved being active with her love of roller skating and ice skating and enjoyed knitting and making things for her family.

Preceded in death by parents Amos Cottrell and Marguerite (Cottrell) Novotny, brother Duane Cottrell, sons Bruce Johnson and Timothy Rouse, daughter Carlynn Johnson, grandson Michael Johnson, great grandson Jacob Arquette, daughter-in-law Jo Williams and granddaughter-in-law Heather Genson.

Survived by her brothers Jerry (Yvonne) Novotny of Cynthiana, Kentucky, Art (Judy) Cottrell of Sun City West, Arizona. Children Bonnie Colegrove, Cindy Carlson, Janis Johnson of Muskegon, Christine (Mike) Hubert of Hesperia, Julie Johnson of Fremont and Kelly (Carl) Genson of Irons, Michigan, 26 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
