Purcey-Zike, Verna Verna Purcey-Zike, age 75 of Fremont, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2006 at her winter home in Winter Haven, Florida. Verna was born on January 10, 1930 in Grand Rapids to Vernon Floyd and V. Aileen (Drowne) Caldwell and married Clair R. Purcey on April 22, 1948 in Cedar Springs. Clair preceded her in death on March 30, 2003. She later married Byron Zike and he survives her. Verna had worked in the Administration office of the Gerber Memorial Health Services in Fremont for many years until her retirement. Verna was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fremont and had been active in the Newaygo County Child Evangelism Fellowship for several years. Verna will be remembered by her family for her close personal relationship with the Lord, and her dedicated service to the church as an organist where she worshiped her Lord as she played. She truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed painting and being an artist. She is survived by her husband, Byron Zike; her children, Gordon (Jan) Purcey of Dallas, Texas; Mark (Bonnie) Purcey of Reed City; Karen (David) DeKuiper of Hingham, Wisconsin; 7 grandchildren, Kim (Jason) Herring; Sarah (Josh) Lehmann; David Purcey; Scott Purcey; Kristin (Scott) Miller; Karla (Joseph) Alexander; Kerry DeKuiper; 5 great grandchildren, Cameron Herring; Megan Herring; Luke Tafur; Braeden Miller; Lily Alexander; foster daughter, Haila (Robert) Vriesman of Grand Rapids; her brother, David (Shirley) Caldwell of Sunfield, Michigan. Funeral servies were held on Friday, January 6, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Fremont.
