Wilks, Vernard O. Vernard O. Vern Wilks, age 90 of Holton, passed away Saturday at his home. Vern was born on July 14, 1914 in Holton to Elman C. and May C. (Olson) Wilks and later graduated from Holton High School. He met and married Gladys Linda Swenson on June 30, 1939 in Holton and has been a lifelong resident of the Holton area. He owned and operated Wilks Standard Services for 25 years until his retirement in 1975 and was also a member of the Holton Evangelical Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gladys of Holton; his daughters, Lori (Michael) Hiles of Holton; Kaye (William) Smith of West Olive; his sons, Gene (Claudia) Wilks of Scottville; Wes (Lynn) Wilks of Bay City; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; his brother, Cecil (Dorothy) Wilks of Englewood, FL. He was preceded in death by one son, Gary in 1977 and by his brother, Orlo Wilks in 1999. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 from the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel with Rev. Paul R. Zager presiding with interment in the Holton Lutheran Cemetery.
