Vernon L. Blamer, age 86 of Hesperia and Fremont, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2020 at his home following a short illness. Vern was born on March 18, 1934 in Hart to Roy Lind and Glenna (Speece) Blamer and later graduated from Fremont High School in 1951. Vern later married his high school sweetheart Shirley M. Gates on August 8, 1952 in Fremont. Vern joined the United States Navy where he served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. He had worked at Gerber Products Company for 41 years and retired as an Administrative Operations Manager in 1993. Vern enjoyed golfing as much as possible; fishing – and enjoyed the family fish fries afterwards as much as fishing; hunting, was an avid Michigan State Fan, was well known for his large vegetable garden and faithfully followed the Detroit Tigers throughout the years. He fiercely and loyally loved his family and was the "Best Dad and Grandpa" Vern is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley of Hesperia; his children, Rhona (Mike) Colbert of North Muskegon; Lynette (Bob) Hurley of Tampa, Florida; Joni (Brad) Blamer-West of Plainwell; Christy (Dave) Norman of Fremont; Daniel (Barbara Jenkins) Blamer of Mt. Rainier, Maryland; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Vern was preceded in death by his son, Bradley P. Blamer, his grandson, Brandon Blamer, his great granddaughter, Camille Colbert; sister, Mary Louise Geeting; brothers, Glen and Ken Blamer. A joint Celebration of Life Memorial Service with Fellowship for both Vernon and Shirley will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Stone Lodge 4465 W. 48th Street Fremont MI  49412  with Military Honors for Vern presented at 12:00 p.m.,  A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Stone Lodge.   Friends may consider memorial contributions to Hesperia Community Library in memory of Vern.
