Viola A. Van Dyk, age 83 of White Cloud, formerly of Wyoming, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at her home following a lingering illness. Vi was born on May 12, 1931 in Grand Rapids to Clare J. and Frances M. (Dyer) Armstrong and later married Don Van Dyk on September 1, 1951 in Grand Rapids. Don preceded her in death on November 4, 1991. Vi had worked at General Motors Plant #1 in the seat cover upholstery division until her retirement in 1989. Vi was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud where she had been President and Secretary of the Altar Society, had taught catechism for over 25 years, had been President of the Deanery and Vice President of the Grand Rapids DCCW. Vi was instrumental in establishing the White Cloud Dalmatians, currently White Cloud Fire Department Auxiliary, was a member of the White Cloud Chamber of Commerce, White Cloud Eagles Auxiliary. She was a member of the White Cloud Lions Club where she was active in the Opening Eyes Special Olympics program. In her spare time, Vi enjoyed reading, crocheting and fishing. SURVIVORS : Donald Van Dyk Jr. (Tonya Minor) of White Cloud; Diana (Terry) Stencel of White Cloud; Elizabeth (Bill) Plotts of White Cloud; Sharon Jordan (Mark Paulsen) of White Cloud; Karen (Todd) Hart of Newaygo; Christine (Randy) Gardenour of Newaygo; 17 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Clare (Mary) Armstrong of Kent City; Phillip (Marie) Armstrong of Wyoming; Arlene St. Arnold of Wyoming; June (Stu) Wilson of Jenison; Fran (Len) Maxwell of Wyoming; several nieces and nephews. Vi was preceded in death by her daughter, Renee Roach in 1993. VISITATION : Monday 4-7:30pm at Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel with ROSARY SERVICES at 7:30pm. MASS OF RESSURRECTION : Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 11am at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud. INTERMENT : Sherman Township Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : White Cloud Fire Department
