Violet R. Shearer, age 92 of White Cloud, passed away Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Violet was born on June 28, 1926 in Grand Rapids to Elmer and Jennie (Vangesell) Welch and later met and married J. Dewitt Shearer Jr. on June 1, 1946 in Grand Rapids. Dewitt preceded her in death on May 14, 2010. Vi has been a resident of the White Cloud are for the past 48 years when she moved from Grand Rapids. She had been a general merchandise clerk and worked in the fabric department at Meijer for 22 years and then later worked at Rosenberg Hardware for 22 ½ years until her retirement. Vi was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Cloud where she sang in the choir, had been president of the Alter Society and had been a church usher for 25 years. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Violet is survived by her children, Russell (Sherri) Shearer of Grand Rapids; Tom (Terry) Shearer of Grand Rapids; Alan (Judy) Shearer of White Cloud; Jennie Hawthorne of White Cloud; 22 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her sister, Juanita Thompsen of Grand Rapids. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt; her daughter, Carolyn Kay Hansen on May 26, 2018; her grandchildren, Rebecca Shearer, Nicholas Shearer, Katie Hawthorne, Marcy Chase. VISIATION : Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Crandell Funeral Home – White Cloud Chapel with ROSARY at 6:30 p.m. at the Crandell Funeral Home – White Cloud Chapel. Geerling presiding with interment in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in White Cloud.
