Obituary

Virginia D. "Ginny" Shoecraft, age 93 of Fremont, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015. Ginny was born on October 7, 1921 to Arthur and Dorothy (Phillips) Pietsch in Shelby. Ginny graduated from Shelby High School and later attended Grand Rapids Business College and Michigan State College in East Lansing. Ginny joined the Women's Army Corp and served during World War II until her discharge as a Sergeant in 1944. Ginny married Ross W. Shoecraft and he preceded her in death on May 19, 2001. Ginny had been an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fremont and was one of the first women to be elected as Deacon in the church. She had also been a volunteer throughout her entire life for such organizations as the Girls Scouts, Hospital Auxiliary Guild (HAGS), and the Dogwood Center for Performing Arts. Ginny enjoyed traveling, golfing, art and playing Bridge. Ginny is survived by her children, Marilyn McKune of Ottawa Lake, Michigan; Tom Shoecraft of Fremont; Paula Shoecraft of Washington, D.C.; her granddaughter, Kellie (Steve) Pijaszek; great grandchildren, Rachel and Ryan Pijaszek. TIME OF CELEBRATION AND REMEMBERANCE : Monday, June 15, 2015 at 11am at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fremont. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery.
