Virginia Ginny M. Purcey, age 80 of Fremont, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Spectrum Health Blodgett Campus in Grand Rapids following a short illness. Ginny was born on January 5, 1936 in Lincoln Township and has been a lifelong resident of the Newaygo County area having moved to Fremont from White Cloud in 2013. Ginny married Gerald A. Jerry Purcey on May 23, 1953 in Fremont and he preceded her in death on October 31, 1999. Ginny had worked at Howmet for 20 years until her retirement in 1998. Ginny was a member of the Fremont Women of the Moose Lodge #401 and enjoyed going to yard sales, gaming and going to the casino, bowling in her younger years and had helped at the Betty Thompson Memorial Golf Tournament for over 20 years. Ginny was loved by her grandchildren and will be missed by her sons, siblings and her many friends. Ginny is survived by her sons, Thomas Purcey of White Cloud; Joseph Purcey of Fremont; Dennis Purcey of Fremont; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; her sisters, Ida Russell of Orlando, Florida; Sara Wood of Denton, Texas; her brothers, William (Linda) Martin of Fremont; Robert (Kathleen) Martin of Fremont; several nieces and nephews. Ginny was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Harvey, Arthur and James Martin. Following her wishes, cremation will take place and a MEMORIAL LUNCHEON will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fremont Moose Lodge in Fremont. Interment will take place in the East Hesperia Cemetery. Friends may consider memorial contributions to Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial Health Services for Newaygo County Cares for a Cause in memory of Ginny.
