Virginia L. Peets, age 92 of Fremont, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Virginia was born on September 15, 1917 in Muskegon to Glenn and Phyllis (Dickerson) Shaw. Virginia married Howard Peets on March 15, 1940 in Fremont and Howard preceded her in death on January 11, 1995. Virginia was one of the original Gray Ladies members and active in the American Red Cross and had been the secretary of the Newaygo County Veterans Trust Fund for over 40 years. She was a life-long member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fremont where she had been very active. Virginia is survived by her son, Tim (Connie) Peets of Fremont; grandchildren, Merridith Lynn (Tim) Hesse, Abigail Lea Whitten of Fremont and Benjamin Howard (Melissa) Peets of Fremont; 6 great grandchildren, Matthew Slosman, stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois with the United States Navy; James Whitten; Isaac Hesse; Lucas Hesse; Cadence Peets; Dillan Peets; her sisters, Geraldine Shanahan of Newaygo; Jean Geeting of Fremont; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Peter Peets; her granddaughters, Jennifer Sue Peets in 1996 and Elizabeth Anne Peets in 1973; her great grandson, Avery Charles Hesse; and sisters, Elaine Smith and Shirley Wilson. VISITATION : Sunday, November 8, 2009 from 2-4pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE : Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 4pm at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel.
