Walter Ed Morris, age 73 of Fremont, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Ed was born on April 12, 1935 in Copemish, Michigan and raised by his parents, Clyde & Dewey Fern (Cady) Morris. Ed graduated from Copemish High School and soon joined the United States Air Force. Ed served in the United States Air Force from 1954 until his retirement as a Master Sergeant in 1977 after 23 years. Ed met and later married Marilyn Schwander on March 3, 1978 in Grand Rapids and together they moved to Fremont in 1994. Ed was a life member of the Newaygo VFW Sportsmans Post #4249; life member of the Military Order of Cootie; and life member of the AMVETS; he was also a member of the Michigan VFW Past Commanders Club and member of the Comstock Park American Legion Post #47. Ed truly enjoyed golfing during his retirement years and enjoyed visiting the veterans at the Veterans Hospital in Monroe, Michigan. Ed is survived by his wife of 31 years, Marilyn of Fremont; his sons, Tom Morris and Terry Morris of Oregon; his daughter, Yvonne (Ralph) Gonzalez of Sparta; 4 grandchildren, Brooke (Jason) Payberg; Karry (Antoine) Gaston; Teresa (Jamie) Pensin; David Gonzalez; 9 great grandchildren, Tyler, Gage, Kirsi; Amanda, Skyler; Alicia, Amiah, Dominic, Leila; several nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his son, Don Morris Jr. on Aug. 7, 2008; and my 11 brothers and sisters, Orville, Donny, Ray, Ortho, Evert, Phil, Thelma, Inis, Vicki, Catherine and most recently, Marilyn on February 12, 2009..
