Walter Gene Robert Stamps, age 73, of White Cloud, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at his home. Gene was born on May 18, 1948 in Frankfurt, Germany to Aubrey and Leni (Hild) Stamps and moved the United States at the age of 16. Gene graduated from high school and enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the Special Forces as a Green Beret during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge. Gene then moved to the Muskegon area and later to White Cloud and had been a truck driver for many years until his retirement from Herin Trucking in Hesperia. Gene married Sherrill Johnson on July 25, 1975 in Muskegon and was a member of the Restored Church of God Church. Gene was a true die hard Detroit Lions Fan through the years, enjoyed watching German soccer, fishing in his younger years, watching movies and listening to older classic rock and roll music.
Gene is survived by his wife, Sherrill of White Cloud; his children and grandchildren, son - Walter GR (Jennifer) Stamps Jr. and grandchildren, Megan and Thomas of Hesperia; daughter - Erika (Thomas) Verhoy of Hesperia and grandchildren, Patrick, Blake, Danielle; his sister, Karla (Chuck) Webster of Texas.
Following Gene's wishes, a private family Celebration of Life Service will be held with Military Honors at the family home in the summer of 2021.
