05/Laisure, Warren Paul "Shorty" Warren Paul Shorty Laisure, age 75 of Newaygo formerly of White Cloud, passed away Monday, July 9, 2007 at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Shorty was born on May 25, 1932 in Portland, Indiana to Paul Earl and Edith Gertrude (Cox) Laisure. Shorty married Betty Thumser on June 11, 1955 and she preceded him in death on February 2, 1977. He later married Mary Brown on December 18, 1999 in White Cloud. Shorty had worked at the Electrolux Company in Greenville for 30 years until his retirement in 1994. Shorty has also been a lifelong resident of Newaygo County and served in the United States Army. He was a life member of the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsmans Post #4249 and life member of the Cooties at the Newaygo V.F.W. Shorty was also a member of the Kent City American Legion and 40 & 8 in Croton. Shorty had been a hobby farmer and tractor enthusiast and enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Newaygo; his daughter, Catherine (Randy) Nurmi of Fremont; step daughter, Cheryl (Tom) Matteson of Comstock Park; step sons, Ken (Tammy) Bates of Grand Rapids; Stacy (Lisa) Bates of Grand Rapids; 4 grandchildren, Patrick Fetterley II; Benjamin Nurmi; Starla Nurmi; Isaac Nurmi; 9 step grandchildren, James Borgeld II; Ashley Borgeld; Alicia Baldwin; Terra Mae Baldwin; Robin Bates; Danny McNeil; Kiesha Bates; Kayle Bates; Stac Bates; his great granddaughter, Kaydence; his sisters and brother, Doris Williams of Hesperia; Celia (Al) Bode of Newaygo; Russell LAisure of Fremont; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters and brother, Ruth Cleek, Dennis Laisure, Betty Theetge, Anna Belle Weatherbee, Evelyn Hughes. Funeral memorial services were held on Friday, July 13, 2007 at the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportmans Post #4249 with post Chaplan Leo Rathbun presiding with interment in the Big Prairie Everett Township Cemetery following cremation. Friends may consider the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans for memorial contributions in memory of Shorty.
