Wirts, Wayne Ray Wayne Ray Wirts, age 85 of Croton, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2007 at the Gerber Memorial Health Services in Fremont. Wayne was born on November 1, 1921 in Morley, Michigan and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942 where he served during World War II. After his honorable discharge, Wayne married Wahnetta Debra Russell on August 24, 1946 in Big Rapids, Michigan. Wahnetta preceded him in death on February 15, 1996. Wayne has been a resident of the Croton area for the past 20 years when he moved from Kalamazoo following his retirement as a supervisor for the Fabrical Company in Kalamazoo. Wayne enjoyed watching Detroit Tigers baseball and had played on the Detroit Tigers Farm Team prior to entering the Marine Corps. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his cats. He is survived by his grand daughters, Lori (Rob) Plite of Pierson, Michigan; Joni (Randy) VanSingel of Rockford; Cara (Craig) Reichert of Dayton, Wyoming; 6 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; his son-in-law, Wayne Gudmunson of Sundance, Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wahnetta; his daughter, Dixie Gudmunson; and 3 sisters. Private graveside services were held later in the summer following cremation with interment at the Croton Township Cemetery.
