Obituary

William James Bill Lucas, 84, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2015. He was born on March 29, 1931 in Benton Harbor, MI. Bill attended Catholic Central High School (1950) where he met and later married Rita Wolford. The couple shared 62 years together and had 12 children. Bill is survived by his wife, Rita; son, Bill (Ginger) Lucas of Byron Center, MI; daughter, Mary (Homer) Elrod of Wyoming, MI; son, Dan (Reni) Lucas of White Cloud, MI; daughter, Pam (Ben) Brewer of South Austin, TX; daughter, Linda (Rick) Harris of Spring Hill, TN; daughter, Brenda (Chris) Thompson of Marietta, GA; son, Dennis (Michelle) Lucas of Jenison, MI; son, Randy (Tina) Lucas of Mead, WA; son, John (Wanda) Lucas of Corning, AR; son, Mike (Julie) Lucas of Grand Rapids, MI; son, Ken (Angie) Lucas of Fremont, MI; son, Rick (Nicole) Lucas of Otsego, MI; 37 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Charles Lucas; infant grandson, Eric Thomas Brewer; and grandson, Seth Lawrence Lucas. Bill was a loving, hardworking and dedicated father. He spent his spare time with family, often at the cottage, teaching them to hunt, fish, and swim in the lake. He shared his competitive spirit with his children, coaching their sports and attending track meets and other events. Bill and Rita raised their children with a love for God and family. He led his family by example, showing them the value of hard work and a job well done. He retired from General Motors Fisher Body Plant #2 in 1993. He served his country for eight years in the National Guard. He left us a legacy of love and will always be remembered as a kind and compassionate man. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at the Aetna Calvary Church - 3944 W. One Mile Road White Cloud, Michigan 49349. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 1 PM with Pastor Ron Workman officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
