Obituary

Schrader, William Charles William Charles Schrader, age 77 of Newaygo, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at the Transitional Health Services in Fremont. Bill was born on January 28, 1928 in Muskegon to Edward Theodore and Ione (Smith) Schrader and joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged at the age of 21 and started work at the and had worked at the Teledyne Continental Motors Company in Muskegon for 30 years until his retirement. He married Dorothy Schrader on November 16, 1999 in White Cloud. After he retired from Teledyne, Bill worked as a Muskegon County Sheriffs Deputy, owned and operated the Oakridge Motel and later built the Oakridge Restaurant in Newaygo. He had also served on the Newaygo County Sheriffs Marine Patrol, had served as the Chief of Police in Grant, had worked in security in Grand Rapids and Rockford and had been a process server for the Newaygo County Sheriffs Department. He enjoyed farming, was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and was a veteran of World War II where he served in the United States Navy and the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of the Croton American Legion and the Newaygo Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Newaygo; daughters, Kathleen (Gary) Kleptach of Marengo, Ohio; Carol Schrader of Ludington; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Angela (Lester) Lykins and their daughter, Hannah Lykins of St. Marys, Georgia; Matthew (Stephanie) Jewett and their children, Annika and Nicole Jewett of Seattle, Washington; Christopher Pollock of Bethleham, Pennsylvania; Brent T. Schrader of Ludington; his step children, Laura Rang of Coralville, Iowa; Catherine (Charles) Hill of Bitely, Michigan; step grandchildren, Jessica Williams, Joseph Hill, Matthew Hill, Aaron Hill; several cousins, including Irene Schrader, Barbara (Lance) Vargo; Marie & Meinard Ziegler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ione Schrader and by a infant sister. Funeral memorial services were held on Friday, April 15, 2005 from the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Newaygo with Rev. Father Tom Boufford presiding with interment in the St. Bartholomew Catholic Cemetery in Newaygo. Friends may consider the Fraternal Order of Police Newaygo County for memorial contributions in memory of Bill.
