Elder Willie Charles Bettis was born the second son to the proud parents of the late William Penn and Louise Bettis on September 5, 1940 in Clarke County, Alabama. Elder Bettis with a work ethic second to none, gifted with so many industrious talents and a love for the Lord and his life-change Word met his journey's end on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at the age of 79.
He graduated from Simmons High School in Hollandale, Mississippi where he was a wonderful student and football player. With the spirit of entrepreneurship imparted to from his father, he established his own company, Willie Bettis Drywall. He is hailed as an industrious and generous person working diligently with his hands. He welcomed the opportunity to teach his trade to the others. He perfected the art of drywalling working on projects both residential and commercial throughout Southwest Michigan.
He accepted Christ as his personal savior through the witnessing ministry of Sis. Irene Green who imparted the Word of God to him. He faithfully attended the Empowerment Center Church of God in Christ and was an ordained Elder under the leadership of Bishop Robert Earl Smith, Sr. It was his pleasure to serve the ministry as the President of the Men's Ministry and Sunday School teacher. He looked forward to the Sunday fellowship after service with the brethren. His radio was constantly tuned into WBBM 780 AM with a listening ear for political discussions that he passionately talked about on a regular basis. His favorite programs were football and the news.
He married his loving and kind wife, Dorothy Edwards of White Cloud, Michigan on June 29, 1979 and was a diligent father figure to her sons. His infectious smile along with his wonderful sense of humor will be dearly missed.
He is proceeded in death by his father and mother, William Penn and Louise Bettis, his brothers John Lee Bettis, Donnie Roy Davis, Barry Lee Bettis; his sisters, Dorothy Calhoun, Bessie Cochran and Martha Jean Reed and grandson, Antonio Brown.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Dorothy Bettis of White Cloud, MI, his children Michelle (Pastor Darryl) Williams and Willie Clayton (Madelyne) Bettis of South Haven, MI, Peter (Ann) Brown of Greensville, MS, Darren (Donielle) Thomas of Cedar Springs, MI; Terrell Marsh of Kent City, MI, Lisa (Pastor James) Bettis-Cooper of South Haven, Jawaun Bettis, James Bettis and Carl Bettis of White Cloud, MI; his brothers, Curtis Crawford of Greenville, MS; William Henry (Doretha) Bettis of Ridgeland, MS; Gregory Lamar (Jennifer) Bettis of Greenville, MS; Ronnie Charles (Chanelle) Griffin of Indianapolis, IN, thirteen grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and the loving members of Empowerment Center Church of God in Christ.
Due to the corona virus health issues, private graveside services will be held on Saturday at the Lincoln Township Cemetery in White Cloud with a larger CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE :Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the family home in White Cloud. Also a video of graveside services will be posted to Willie's web page following the graveside services on Saturday for anyone wishing to view the services online.
