Yvonne Broome, age 98, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Green Acres Assisted Living in Fremont. Yvonne was born to Thomas R. and Stella M. Henry on December 28, 1921 in Oceana County. Yvonne graduated from Fremont High School in 1939 and subsequently attended Michigan State (College) University for four years, studying clothing and textile design. She pursued her dream of becoming a fashion designer, working for the Singer Company in Detroit and San Antonio during the 1940's. Yvonne married Alfred Broome in Oceana County in 1944, and following the war they relocated to Battle Creek where she assisted Dr. Broome with his veterinary practice. Yvonne returned to Fremont in 1954 and worked for Gerber Products Company in Consumer Relation until retirement in 1983. Yvonne fed her creative spirit when she used her sewing machine to create beautiful articles of clothing. She loved the Fremont Christian Church and its congregants, and was loyal to each and every one of her friends. Yvonne Broome is survived by her daughter, Denise (Thomas J.) Young of Grand Rapids and son, Craig (Kathy L.) Broome of White Cloud and her beloved granddaughter, Tegan M. Broome. The family is especially grateful to the many staff persons from Harbor Hospice and Green Acres – Fremont for their compassionate care, and to Dr. Carol DeWeerd for her years of empathetic medical care.
