Barbara Joppich Obituary

Barbara Joppich, aged 78, died peacefully on January 22, 2024 at Boulder Creek Assisted Living Facility in Rockford, MI.  Barbara was surrounded by her children at the time of her passing.  Mrs. Joppich is survived by her children Mitch Joppich (Jeanne), Matt Joppich(Deanna)  and Missy Palmer (Gary Glawe).  She is also survived by her sister, Kathy Danielson(Ron).  She was blessed with seven grandchildren, Ashley(Collin), Jake, Ben, Ellie Jo, Amelia, Emma and Abigail, whom she loved dearly.  She also had two great-grandchildren, Dempsey and Natalie.  Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Alan.  She was also preceded in death by her father and mother, Robert and Virginia Mieler as well as two brothers, Bob and Tommy, and sister Susie.  

Barbara was born in Frankfort, Michigan on April 5, 1945. Soon after, her family moved to Rogers City, MI, where she was raised.  She graduated from Rogers City High School in 1963, after which she attended Saginaw Business Institute.  She married Alan Joppich in Rogers City on July 31, 1965, after which they settled in Onaway to raise their children.  Barbara was an active member of the Onaway community, working in support of her children in the Onaway Area Schools system and was also an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Joppich worked for Citizens National Bank in Indian River, MI.  After 23 years with Citizens, she retired in 2007 as Vice President and Branch Manager in Indian River.  She retired as an active member of the Indian River Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club of Indian River.  Barbara also worked in support of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life For Tip of the Mitt(Cheboygan County). Upon retirement, Barbara and Alan relocated to Hesperia, MI to be nearer to their children and grandchildren. 

Barbara loved gardening and maintaining her yard and flowers.  She often worked tirelessly in caring for her beloved flower gardens, after which she enjoyed coffee and reading on her deck, overlooking the White River.  She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities, traveling frequently to watch basketball, softball, baseball, soccer and football games.  Barbara was also involved in supporting Christ the King Catholic Church in Hesperia, where she had many friends.  Of special note, was her dear friend Chris Osterman, who spent many hours of worship, friendship and care with Barbara. 

Funeral services will be held in Hesperia, MI on a date to be determined in the spring of 2024.
