Grant Boyd Carpenter, age 86, of Newaygo passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019, at his home in Newaygo with his family by his side. Grant was born on July 14, 1933, in Grand Rapids to Grant O. and June G. (Tiffany) Carpenter and married Donna Cousineau on July 19, 1975, in Jenison. Grant received his Master’s Degree in education at Grand Valley State University and served as an elementary special needs teacher in the Grandville Public School Systems until his retirement in 1994. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion. Grant was a Master Mason, was a great cook, and enjoyed music and art.
Grant is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Shan Carpenter of Grandville and Tammy (Kevin) Post of Jenison; pre-assembled sons, Timothy (Dixie) Cousineau, Mark (Peggy) Cousineau, and Philip Cousineau; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren; brother, Craig (Judy) Carpenter; and half-brother, David Hikade. He was preceded in death by his sister, Pamela Carpenter.
